I put together the music for this one and will be riding it this year. If you live in socal and are looking for a great challenging bike ride, sign up for Tour de Foothills, its gonna be so awesome!
Climbed up Mt. Baldy today. Did not break any records but did feel really good!
Boy the heat today was brutal but I’m glad I came out. Great company, SAGs and post-ride grub.
Earlier this morning: 46 Miles with 5,240 Ft of climbing. It was a really warm day today. We got through our water bottles pretty quick. There was about 10+ miles more to go but we decided to turn around as we’re running low on supplies. Our next attempt is going to be better.
So excited for Tour de Foothills this year. It’s one of the must-do rides here in so-cal and I’m doing it for the first time this year. Some of the routes were ridden by the pros at the recently concluded Tour of California, and some routes are timed too! If you’re interested in riding TdF, I’d suggest doing the early registration which ends June 30 to save money. It’s gonna be so much fun! #tourdefoothills
70+ miles with 7000+ feet of climbing. I dont know how it was possible but I bested my time on GMR by 1 minute, and still kept myself within the Top 30 spot of the challenge. Although I hoped to do good on the Mt. Baldy segment, but it was just too tough — didn’t break any records there.

This morning’s group. Everybody did well, and had fun chasing Alex up the hills.

First to the top of Mt. Baldy (Ave grade 8.9% over 4 Miles!!!). If it weren’t for my buddy having a flat, I would’ve been second. The bugger came out on a Mountain Bike with gears that you can spin forever.

These legs were toasted after the last climb up.

Friends chilling out at the top of Mt. Baldy. Behind me is where the Ski Lifts are. It was an awesome view and it felt great reaching the top.
Since it was so steep going up, the descents were a bit sketchy. We were grabbing the brakes all the way down. Good thing our rims didn’t overheat. But I think i shaved a good portion off my brake pads. All in all a great ride and looking forward to doing this again next week!

Did 60+ miles today with 5,000 feet of climbing. It was alright. I didn’t feel particularly awesome today, but I didnt do terrible either. I had an Andy Schleck moment and dropped my chain mid climb, which totally messed up my time going up. On top of that, it was my first time having my chain dropped so it took me a while to figure out how to put it back. Still a great day in the saddle though. Strava info here if you care.
Earlier this morning:
- 73 miles with 7.3k feet of climbing
- The last climb was at Mt. Baldy’s Ski Lifts. It was a total b*tch: 17%+ GRADE!!!!!!
- Was out of the top 20 in Strava’s L’Etape Challenge GMR. Currently ranking 27/188. But was happy i bested my time yet again.
- Weather was a warm high 70s when we descended. Definitely a great day in the saddle!
Tour de Foothills 2012
I heard things are going to be fun this time around:
a) GMR is going to be timed! Just like the pros!
b) Super awesome SAG stops
c) And my favorite part: post-ride Beer garden! I heard local craft breweries are taking part.
Pre-register here. Slots are gonna get sold out for sure!
Went up GMR to Mt.Baldy again and took a 2nd shot at Strava’s GMR Challenge. While I’m really happy my time has improved despite sore legs, my ranking dropped down to 16th (out of 163 participants). It seemed like all the skinny climbers in the area came out to set some fast records! I plan on coming back Monday to take another shot of the challenge then going up further Mt. Baldy to the ski-lifts. I’ve heard that the grades are steep, some are 17%. Should be fun!
